Most people, when they think of dogs for sale, think of puppies. In general dogs for sale come in three categories: mutts, purebreds and shelter dogs. When it comes to purebred dogs, they fall into two categories: toy breeds and sporting breeds. The first one usually refers to the more popular sporting breeds such as retrievers, spaniels and bull dogs.
The second category is usually composed of the more popular pet types such as Chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers, teacup puppies, giant Schnauzers and golden retrievers. While breed rescue groups receive dogs on a regular basis, they also receive purebred dogs from pet stores. These dogs may be neutered, spayed or neutered, have had all of their shots and are up to date on vaccinations.
Another misconception people have is that because the dogs are from a shelter or a boarding kennel, they probably aren’t healthy. The fact is that most commercial breeders take much better care of their animals than do most “pet shops.” Commercial breeders not only give their dogs good food, they also make sure they are getting proper exercise. Most pet stores don’t provide exercise for their dogs. And, even if they do, the quality of that exercise is severely lacking.
Dogs for sale from either a shelter or a rescue group are usually the very best dogs around. They have been socialized from a young age and have received all of their vaccinations. They also have undergone a temperament evaluation to determine which of their particular breed has a compatible personality with the new owner. Temperament testing is performed by a veterinarian and the results will be very helpful to you when you go to purchase a puppy.
Not all commercial breeders of purebred dogs in their business. A large percentage of them have mixed breeds in their lines. Sometimes these mixed breeds are from other countries and have been bred to become one particular breed. Even though this is the case with a large percentage of breeders, don’t worry too much about it – you can still buy a healthy purebred puppy.
There are so many dogs for sale on the internet that it can be difficult to filter through the scams and the real deals. So, before purchasing a puppy, make sure to research your options thoroughly. If you use good common sense and a little bit of research, you’ll be able to find the right dog for you at a price that’s affordable.
